Valerie Stemmler has been teaching for over 8 years. She has worked in a wide variety of school settings, including alternative schooling as well as at the elementary and middle school levels in the public school system. Certified in elementary and special education, Valerie has worked as a classroom teacher, a co-teacher, self-contained special educator and also as a reading specialist throughout a career that has taken her from Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Maryland. Valerie holds a B.S.Ed in both Elementary, and Special Education as well as an M.S. in Special Education from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and she is currently working on a Master's in Reading at Goucher College.
Shaun Stemmler earned a B.S. in Biology as well with a M. Ed. in Science Education from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. While a graduate student at Clarion, Shaun was extensively involved in the Super Saturday Science program that has served as the template for our program. Shaun has been teaching science for the past 7 years in Maryland and South Carolina.
Catherine Stemmler has over 34 years of elementary teaching experience. Throughout her career, Mrs. Stemmler has fully invested herself into her school and students, serving as facutly advisor for the school newspaper, an Academic Sports League judge, and teaching after-school remedial classes in addition to her regular classroom teaching. Her talents have not gone unnoticed, as Mrs. Stemmler has been honored by her supervisors, peers, and students, all of which has been evidenced by her having been appointed to a school district Lead Teacher Team, named Teacher of the Year, and twice listed in Who's Who Among America's Teachers. We are ecsatic to have Mrs. Stemmler on our staff.
Kevin Lanier is the model for enthusiastic teaching. He brings with him 7 years of experience- 4 in Baltimore City and 3 in Anne Arundel County to go along with a Masters degree, with an expertise in language arts, social studies, and science. When he's not teaching, Kevin has a love for all activities that include the outdoors.
Alyssa Alvarez makes learning fun. Her favorite subjects are science and math and she is currently a 1st grade teacher in Anne Arundel County. In addition to her four years in Maryland, Alyssa also taught in New Hanover County, North Carolina after earning her B.S. in elementary education from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. In addition to teaching, buying a house, and planning a wedding, Alyssa is also currently hard at work on her Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from McDaniel College.
